Eastern Shipbuilding Group has announced the launch of the Escort/Rescue ZDrive Tug CAPT. JIM McALLISTER for McAllister Towing on March 19, 2019.This Escort/Rescue Z-Drive Tug design provided by Jensen Maritime Consultants is currently under construction at Eastern’s Allanton facility. The vessel is scheduled to deliver later in 2019.

McAllister Towing selected Schottel to provide propulsion units for a new-built escort and harbor tug. The tug, under construction at Washburn & Doughty, will feature a pair of Schottel type SRP 490 Rudderpropellers  with an input power of 2,525 kW each, delivering an expected bollard pull of about 82 tons.

The tug is the 33rd tractor tug in McAllister’s fleet.The CAPT. JIM is powered by 3516E Tier IV Caterpillar engines with twin Schottel SRP4000FP units. Packed into her 100’ x 40’ hull is 6,770 horsepower. She achieved 82.

The pilot house of the tug Huntington recently returned to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum after extensive metal refurbishing and repair.All restoration work was performed by E. H. Harvey Metal Working Co. of Easton, Md., and included sandblasting the exterior, removing lead paint, and preparing the exterior for final painting.
