Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor celebrated the start of the 2025 international shipping season Friday with the arrival of the M.V. Pile, a bulk carrier owned and operated by Polish marine line Polsteam. The ship arrived safely at Indiana’s Lake Michigan port 19 days after departing from Port of Ijmuiden, Netherlands, and navigating the North Atlantic and Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway system.

Tanco is a third-generation, family-owned business operated at the port since 1977.The company stores and performs value-added services for liquid cargoes, from petroleum to food-grade oils.

Ports of Indiana to Establish Container Port Serving Chicago Metropolitan Area

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has approved a proposal from Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor to establish the first international sea cargo container terminal on Lake Michigan. This would create the only all-water container route for ocean vessels to serve the greater Chicago metropolitan area via the Great Lakes.
