Tanker ordering has surged in the first few months of 2024 as shipowners owners seek to renew ageing fleets and add new vessels that meet latest environmental regulations.So far this year, 104 tankers have been added to the global orderbook, up from 79 for the same period last year, representing a year-on-year increase of c.32%, according to latest figures from Veson Nautical.

Swedish shipping company Stena Bulk has expanded its fleet with new long-term charter agreements for four newbuild eco Medium Range (MR) tankers.Two of the vessels, Stena Continent and Stena Conquest, will be delivered from Hyundai Mipo by the end of 2025.Two further eco MR tankers, Stena Contender and Stena Concept, will follow in 2026.

The IMO Assembly unanimously approved the decision of the Council at its 129th session on November 30.Dominguez Velasco will take up the office of Secretary-General on January 1, 2024, for an initial term of four years. He becomes the Organization's 10th elected Secretary-General.
Danish pure play product tanker company TORM on Monday announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire eight secondhand MR vessels in a $340 million cash and stock deal. TORM did not name the seller.The vessels have all been built by South Korea's Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in 2014 and 2015, and six of the vessels have been fitted with scrubbers.
